Cheese tools

You may have heard of the various cheese tools that exist, but do you know what they’re all made to do? Explore this guide so that you know which tool to use the next time you’re serving up your favourite cheese.

THE CHEESE PLANE

Produces thin to medium shavings – perfect for salads, sandwiches or crackers.

THE CHEESE MICRO PLANE

Creates small, delicate shavings that are perfect for melting on top of pasta or salad.

The Cheese Wire

Also known as a roller plane, this tool is best for cutting squares off sticks of cheese. Ideal for cheese trays and platters.

THE CHEESE KNIFE

For use at the table. Look for a thin or open blade. This reduces friction and prevents the cheese from sticking to the knife.

THE CHEESE BOARD

Marble or wooden boards with a swing-arm wire are best for larger blocks of firm and hard cheeses. Always cut at slightly below room temperature. Cutting cheese that is too cold will break wires.
